About Us

Our Preschool opened in 1989 and is a registered charity.  The Preschool is a community preschool run by a parental committee.

The Preschool meets each day, during the school calendar, at Old Stratford Community Centre, Deanshanger Road, Old Stratford. We accept children aged 2 years until school entry.   Our preschool is easily accessible for all with a large free carpark.

We offer sessions 5 days a week and these can be full or half days.

Sessions are:

  • Breakfast club 7.30am – 8.30am

  • Morning session 8.30 – 11.30am

  • Lunch Club 11.30 – 12.00pm

  • Afternoon session 12.00 – 3.00pm

  • Full day 8.30 – 3.00pm

Each child must enrol for a minimum of two sessions per week although further sessions, lunch clubs or breakfast clubs can be arranged as availability allows.

The Management of Our Setting:

Our setting is a charity and as such is managed by a committee whose members are all parents of children at the Preschool.  Members are elected at our Annual General Meeting.  The committee are responsible for the following:

  • managing our finances

  • employing and managing staff

  • making sure that we have and work to policies that help us provide a high quality service

  • make sure that we work in partnership with our parents

The Annual General Meeting is open to all parents of our children who attend our setting.  It is our shared forum for looking back over the previous year's activities and planning ahead for the next year.

Our preschool provides children with the opportunity to learn through play in a safe and stimulating environment.  Activities are planned around the Early Years Foundation Stage framework and the children's current interests.

Our children learn to be part of a group which values everyone.  They are able to develop at their own pace with plenty of adult support which helps them to grow in self confidence and have a sense of self worth.

They are encouraged to become independent with self help skills, exploring and investigating new and different activities, expressing themselves through a variety of mediums ie. paint, crayons, modelling material and dressing up.  They gain new experiences when participating in our music and dance sessions.

Our preschool aims to:

  • Provide a high quality care and education for children to play, learn and grow

  • Work in partnership with parents to help their children learn and develop

  • Add to the life and well-being of our local community

  • Offer children and their parents a service that promotes equality and values diversity

Our preschool provides children with the opportunity:

  • To learn through play in a safe and stimulating environment

  • To enjoy the company of other children

  • To meet other adults from outside the family

  • To be part of a group which values everyone whatever their sex, age, race or cultural background regardless of ability

  • To develop at his/her own pace, with plenty of adult support

  • To grow in self confidence

  • To gain independence by managing when apart from parents / carers for a period of time

  • To express themselves through a variety of mediums i.e. paints, crayons, modelling materials, dressing up, role-play, construction toys, water play, sand play, woodwork, sewing and other crafts.

  • To gain new experience in using a computer, participating in regular music sessions, discovering our surroundings through supervised walks, joining in group discussions

We have a close link with our local primary school, Old Stratford Primary School, and to help our children become "school ready" we are able to visit the school and spend some time with the reception teacher helping the children to become more confident when transitioning to school.

We currently use tapestry which is an easy to use and secure online learning journal helping staff and families celebrate their children's learning and development.  Our parent partnership is very important to us and communication between staff, parents and children is key.  Tapestry helps build a special record of a child's experiences and development whilst they are with us.  We encourage parents to share news from home on Tapestry including what your child has achieved, their interests and hobbies, holidays and other exciting news.

Our preschool provides parents with:

  • reassurance their children are in a safe and supportive environment

  • they are being given individual care by our highly qualified team who have many years experience between them, from special educational needs to bathing sore knees!

  • we are here to help with dietary information, lunch box ideas, potty training, behaviour advice or a friendly ear to listen!
